We know it's challenging out there at the moment.

Whether you're working from home, can't work at all or you're providing essential services - it's not business as usual.

Our goal, as it was last year too, is to help each of our clients navigate lockdown and come out the other side well. Please get in touch if you need additional support, have questions about government assistance or you're using lockdown as a chance to plan ahead and want some outside perspective. We're here to help.

The latest on wage subsidies

The Wage Subsidy Scheme is now open for applications. If your business has had at least a 40 percent decline in revenue (or expects to) as a result of the move to Alert Level 4, you can apply to contribute to the wages of your employees, or yourself, if you are self-employed, over the next two-week period.

Providing inaccurate information can delay the process of receiving your subsidy, so get in contact if you'd like our help with the application process.

Employer obligations through lockdown

Employers have a number of obligations to staff during lockdown particularly if they are applying for government assistance. Key points to remember:

  • If you are applying for the wage subsidy, you must have discussed this with the employee you are applying for and received their consent to do so.
  • Any changes to an employees hours, role or pay must be discussed and agreed upon by all parties.
  • If you do receive the wage subsidy, it needs to be taxed and have all other normal deductions as per any normal wage payment.

Provisional tax

If you have a March balance date, provisional tax is due 28 August. Talk to us now if you would like to look at options to defer payments via tax pooling. This can ensure tax liabilities are met, while aligning tax payments with cashflow.
